Caring for your stairs

1. Lacquered wooden surfaces

The stairs and banisters are treated with a lacquer that resists hard wear:
- Lacquered wooden surfaces require no special daily attention
- Make sure that sand or other types of dirt do not collect in the staircase. Do not wear outdoor shoes when using the staircase
- Remove sand and dust with a vaccum cleaner or brush. If you wish to clean the staircase thoroughly, wipe it clean with a damp cloth. You can add a few drops of neutral cleaning agent to the water if you wish. Don´t use too much water.
- If the staircase becomes wet from water or other liquid, wipe it dry immediately.
- We only recommend cleaning agents that are specifically produced for newly lacquered surfaces (you can also use pine soap or washing up liquid).
- If the lacquered surface has become scratched, it can be re-lacquered with halfgloss or matt touch-up and repair lacquer. We recommend light sanding before lacquering. NOTE! You must be very careful when sanding, we recommend that you contact a professional painter before you take on any larger repairs. NOTE! The laquered surface cannot be repaired with oil or wax.
- If the surface has received larger dents or pressure marks it is a good idea to fill them out with wood filler first. Once the filler has hardened, sand the surface lightly before lacquering with repair lacquer.

2. Stained wood surfaces

Stained and lacquered surfaces have been lacquered after staining in the same way as a normal lacquered wooden surface. The same care advice applies as above.
NOTE! If you try to sand or re-lacquer a stained wooden surface, you must be very careful not to sand too much, otherwise the wood will be exposed. It this occurs, it is very difficult to repair and often requires professional help. If you are uncertain, contact the manufacturer.

3. Painted wooden surfaces

For painted wooden surfaces, the same applies as for lacquered and stained surfaces mentioned above. It can be repaired with paint, but the repair will often be visible unless you are very careful and accurate. You should also make sure that the colour of the repair paint matches the original colour.
